Vivace Strings from Matthew Flinders Anglican College, Buderim, QLD

The students from Matthew Flinders Anglican College were so excited when their teacher showed them last year’s Online Orchestra that they wanted to get involved this year. The students voted on a location to record their video that most represented the Sunshine Coast and they winning location was The Big Pineapple.

Nathaniel, Austins Ferry, TAS

Nathaniel first heard about the online orchestra last year, but didn’t have the opportunity to do it. After listening to the final video, he was impressed and determined to be a part of it this year. Nathaniel is 15 years old, home-educated and enjoys playing piano and saxophone. He especially like playing and listening to marches.

Deb, Mendooran, NSW

Deb from Mendooran NSW joined the AMEB Online Orchestra on harp. What a view!

Shari and Nicole, Woonona, NSW

Shari (left) learned the piano as a teen, then returned to lessons with Nicole for the last three years. Shari loves both hairdressing and music, so they decided to combine the two and record their duet submission in her hairdressing salon. The pink guitar that Shari’s Uncle Mark made for her hangs in pride of place in her salon, and makes a beautiful backdrop for their performance.

Thornbill Quartet, Perth, WA

This group of four friends enjoy playing together and building their chamber music skills. They have performed together at eisteddfods and have busked in Perth CBD to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House. They hope to busk again soon to raise money for another charity.

The Rockin’ Rockets, Canberra, ACT

This rock band formed last year during lunch time guitar jam sessions at their school. The 9-piece band have performed at school assemblies, Christmas concerts and carols at their local hospital. They even made their school song into a rap! The band worked hard to polish their performance of I am Australian and are thrilled to be a part of the AMEB Online Orchestra.

Charleville and Districts Community Orchestra, Charleville, QLD

The Charleville and Districts Community Orchestra recorded their Online Orchestra entry at the Cosmos Centre in their outback Queensland town on the evening of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

Elizabeth (Tin Whistle) and Amy (Guitar & Singing), Schofields, NSW

Sisters Elizabeth and Amy from Schofields, NSW, were inspired by each other to enter this year’s AMEB Online Orchestra. They both completed AMEB exams over the years and now Amy is a piano teacher and Elizabeth is a music-loving pharmacist.

They both entered last year’s Online Orchestra and recall wishing AMEB had chosen I am Australian so were keen to join again this year when the song was announced!

Rowville Secondary College, Rowville, VIC

Rowville Secondary College Intermediate Band braved the cold to record their AMEB Online Orchestra entry while on school music camp in Healesville, Victoria.
